The Smith Log Home

July 9th myself and some friends started off on our trip to visit Palmyra, New York. My friend Lindsey grew up in the area so we stayed at her parents house. We made it in late Friday night around midnight. Saturday morning we awoke to Lindsey's mom making breakfast for us. She was so sweet to have a hot breakfast ready for when we came downstairs. I was super excited to have this opportunity to see the church history sites and be where so many great events took place in the early days of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

We started our trip off at the Smith log home. We started out in the Visitor Center where a Sister Missionary talked to us about some of the events that took place at this site.
This log home is not the original but it was rebuilt to stand in the exact place where the original home stood. When it was built it was built with material from the same era that Joseph Smith Senior and his boys would have used. It was also made in the same manner. You will not find a nail or screw from our day it was built to be an exact replica to its time.
The Smith family Bible where Joseph Smith JR had read the scripture
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Through reading this scripture is what drove him to pray and ask God what church was true, and which church he should join. He was confused because there were so many denominations and they would have different interpretations of the same scripture. He wanted to make sure that he joined the right one.

This was the Joseph and Lucy's bedroom. (the parents)
This room was built on after they had first built the home. When they moved here they had one less child and so they built this room for the new baby to give Lucy someplace to give birth, which later became the sick room. This is the room that Alvin would have died in when he suffered from what was probably appendicitis.

Then we went upstairs where the children slept.
There were two beds in the girls room which was back behind the boys room.
The second bed in the girls room.
The boys room. These beds were so short and small and to think they had six boys who shared the two beds.
The back side of the log home.
The fencing that was around the farm.
It was a neat experience to be in the home and see how the family lived. To see the room where the Angel Moroni appeared to Joseph 3 times in one evening to provide him with instruction I felt the spirit here that testified to me that these events really did take place and on this ground is where things began for the restoration of the True Gospel of Jesus Christ.
