Hammond Castle

After we went Whale Watching we went on up the road and Visited Hammond Castle. It has been made into a museum and of course is closed on Mondays. We wanted to at least walk around a little and see it. We didn't wonder to far because we didn't want to get caught trespassing. So we didn't go to the Ocean side of the Castle. I think it would have been amazing to see it from that side. I would like to make another trip out to Hammond Castle and see it on the inside and the other side of the castle as well and roam the grounds more freely.
John Hays Hammond, Jr. built his medieval-style castle between the years 1926 and 1929 to serve both as his home and as a backdrop for his collection of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance artifacts. In addition, the building housed the Hammond Research Corporation, from which Dr. Hammond produced over 400 patents and the ideas for over 800 inventions. Second only to Thomas Alva Edison in number of patents, John Hammond was one of America's premier inventors. His most important work was the development of remote control via radio waves, which earned him the title, "The Father of Remote Control."

This is a view from the drive way area out to the Ocean. This is where you would get down to the lower grounds.
Me at the entrance to go to the front door.

This was on the inside of the little walkway that I am standing in front of just above.
Ali being funny. She didn't want to be in the picture so she moved to where she thought she was out of the way and when I told her I could still see her she decided to smile.
I liked the Black and White effect because it makes it look more ancient.
Do you see the draw bridge?
What a view
Ali enjoying the view.
The grounds are kept up really well and have some lovely flowers.

View from up top looking down to the lower yard. Next time I go I would love to go and see down there.
The stairs leading back to the parking lot.
The Castle was really neat to be able to see it. It is cool to be able to see something like this in the United States. I thought I would have to travel to Europe to see real Castles. Granted it doesn't date back as old as the castles in Europe but it still looks cool. Stay tuned for another post in the near future of more on Hammond Castle.
